Michael Leunig , BACP

Michael Leunig is a BACP member and an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist whose personal journey informs his clinical work. Born in Germany and having moved frequently during childhood, he has navigated early life challenges, trauma, depression, and anger issues, experiences that helped shape his compassionate, practical approach to therapy. He trained as a Mindfulness Master Practitioner and began by teaching mindfulness to groups and professionals, later completing a degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Salford University.

Alongside counselling training he trained in clinical hypnotherapy and now teaches courses in that field; he is also accredited with the GHR as a clinical hypnotherapist and recognised supervisor. His work has included roles with the UK mental health charity Mind, participation in the Blue Lights scheme supporting emergency services staff, and clinical work in NHS surgeries across the North of England using solution-focused methods. In private practice he leads a multi-award-winning psychotherapy and clinical hypnotherapy service, and he serves as Mind Coach for the Oldham Rugby League Football Team.

Michael uses an integrative framework drawing on person-centred ideas, transactional analysis, cognitive behavioural techniques, clinical hypnosis, mindfulness, emotional freedom techniques, and life coaching. He focuses on helping people feel unstuck after grief, trauma, addiction, relationship breakdowns, or life transitions, believing that clients hold the answers they need and that his role is to walk alongside them to find those answers. He offers therapy in English and German and is accepting both national and international clients.
